Bachelor semester 6, second quarter (complete design assignment).
Design a hotel for 3 to N guests in Rotterdam somewhere along the Middellandstraat. Add at least one urban function to the design.

I choose to create a hotel in which every room is linked to a famous Dutch painter. Rather than creating disney-landish rip-offs of the artists work, it seemed altogether more plausible and durable to look at the underlying properties of the artists work in question.
The resulting presentation for this course was nothing more (or nothing less for that matter) than a 12 minute video. A reduced (scaled down and poor quality) version of this file is available from this page. Note that you need the DivX 5.x codec to view it, which you can download for free from divx.com.
I've also provided a set of stills from this animation for direct viewing.

Stills (in no particular order):
Bsc6_Appel_preview
Cutaway view of the 'Karel Appel' room.
Bsc6_Bosch_preview
Cutaway view of the 'Bosch' room.
Bsc6_Brueghel_preview
Cutaway view of the 'Breughel' room.
Bsc6_Rembrandt_preview
Cutaway view of the 'Rembrandt' view.
Bsc6HotelView
Rendering of the design in-situ.
Bsc6HotelSideView
Another in-situ rendering from a different angle.
Bsc6HotelBambooView
Image of the bamboo-garden.
Bsc6HotelBirdView
Birds-eye view of the hotel in the city.
Bsc6HotelNightView
Front facade at night.
Bsc6HotelSphereView
The inner-garden as seen reflected in a mirror ball.
bsc6HotelStreetView
Rendering of the hotel along the street.
Bsc6HotelStairView
The shape of the central 'staircase'.

You can download the animation at half the original resolution (300 × 200 pixels) and only 50 megabytes in size, but otherwise identical. Note that the video was originally in Dutch and has been translated on rather short notice and -more importantly- in the absence of a dictionary):

A small essay on the design can be downloaded here in pdf format. WARNING! It's Dutch and it's boring.
